Many people decide to take their homes off the market during the holiday season because it is somewhat of an inconvenience to have their home listed and to have to prepare for showings. Depending on how you look at it, keeping your home on the market during the holidays could be an advantage to you. Also, it is easy to make your home cozy and comfortable for the holidays, provided you add the right decorative holiday touch.
Keeping your home on the market during the holiday season can increase your chance of selling your home. If you think about it, there are less homes on the market which means, more of an opportunity for you. Also, from my experience in the real estate industry, many people are being relocated during this time of year. People start off the New Year in their new location. One of the reasons people are having trouble selling their home is because of the amount of inventory available, which means there are many choices for people to chose from. Keeping your home on the market during a time when many people take their home off the market, certainly cannot hurt your situation.
The holidays can be a very comfortable and cozy time of year. Keeping your home on the market during the holidays and staging your home in a cozy and decorative way can give you an edge in the market and also make your home stand out. The weather is cold outside, so if you have a fireplace, turn it in for all showings. Also, it is important to make sure that your exterior lights and decorations are not tacky. A classy look with lights and decorations can actually add a favorable look to your home. If you have the time, you or your agent may want to bake some cookies for the showing. It is always nice to have warm cookies and not to mention the wonderful smell that the kitchen will sustain.
I can just imagine a buyer looking through the diminished inventory of homes during the holiday. They chose to see your home. They pull up to the front of the home, which has some classy decorations. They walk through the front door and already smell the warm cookies that just came out of the oven. As they turn the corner, the fireplace is on and the room feels warm and cozy. Overall, the first impression is great and they haven’t even seen the rest of the home! With all this being said, make sure to think things over before you decide to take your home off the market. Keeping your home on the market during the holiday should be used as an advantage not an obstacle!
